Tomer is a multidisciplinary designer and artist based in Haifa. In his creative process, he draws inspiration from nature and reusable materials. \u201cThrough my work, I aim to challenge viewer\u2019s perceptions, if only for a moment. I wish to instill the awareness that although our sensations are perceived as being accurate and real, they might not necessarily reflect reality as it is. In my artwork, what appears to be a mass formed in the depth of the Earth is, in fact, an object made of paper-based fibers that I handcrafted in my studio.<\/p>\n
When the Covid pandemic broke out in 2020, my ceramic suppliers, from whom I used to purchase clay, shut down. The desire to continue working in the studio prompted me to experiment with different materials, which is how I discovered the potential of working with fibers. Over the past three years, I have experimented with various working methods and developed a material derived from a paper-based compound. The material appears solid, heavy and molded, yet its fiber composition makes it breathable, airy and lightweight. I chose to place objects with bulk on a delicate base, thereby introducing a surrealistic dimension into the realistic space.\u05f4<\/p>\n
